What is a retinal tear?
Retinal Tears
A retinal tear is a small break that develops in the retina. Once a tear forms, fluid can seep underneath and increase the risk of a more serious condition called a retinal detachment, which can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly.
Treatment
Options include:
- Laser therapy: A laser creates small burns around the tear, forming scar tissue that may seal it. Cryopexy: Freezing around the tear stimulates scar tissue that may secure the retina in place.
- Both procedures are done in the office and are highly effective in preventing further complications.
